Day Ninety Six

Dear Readers,
Fantastic, superb, wonderful, jaw dropping.  Just some of the descriptions for what I felt today.  Fantastic to finally see an actual Dodger game, and have the time set aside to watch the entire game.  Superb for how the Dodger's played the game.  Considering that Clayton Kershaw had the flu, still wanted to play the game for himself and the fans who were expecting him, and still pitched a great three innings.  Not to mention he also got the first hit in the game, a double down the third base line.  Wonderful, to finally hear the voice of Vin Scully calling a game after a whole off season.  There is no equal to Vin as a broadcaster.  He makes the game come alive and tells wonderful stories.  His voice is a soothing voice, a calming voice.  My heart breaks thinking that he might not be broadcasting for much longer.  The day he leaves calling Dodger games, is the day a part of me dies.  I don't know what I will do then.  Jaw dropping, to see Matt Kemp's power come out in the first game of the season.  I wondered how long it would be to see his first home run.  I didn't have to wait very long.  A towering shot that landed just barely on top of the scoreboard to make it a two run blast.  There was magic in the air, and Magic in the seats.  Yes, new owner Magic Johnson carried a little Laker magic with him to the season opener.  Sitting next to Frank McCourt, it was great to see him there even with the deal not finalized.  It was a great start to the very long season and I am looking forward to seeing many more games.  I love baseball.  Go Dodgers!!
One other thing about the Dodgers.  I have to give a little dig to the little brother of a really good friend of mine, Ken Kimura.  A few years back, when Clayton Kershaw was still just trying to make it in the big leagues, Ken did not have as much faith in the young pitcher as I did.  I loved what Clayton was bringing to the game and was sure that he was going to be a star some day soon.  Ken on the other hand, was too worried about his high pitch count and not getting first strike pitches.  All the while, giving me a hard time for being such a back of Clayton's.  Well, it is now vindication time. Considering he did win what is the Triple Crown for pitchers last year.  Leading the league in strikeouts, ERA, and wins.  Oh, and there was that little award called the Cy Young, given to the best pitcher in the league.  Now, add to that a toughness that many players do not have or show.  Forgoing the opportunity to sit this game out with the flu, and opting to go out and give it his all anyways.  Pitching three shutout innings on a conservative 39 pitches.  Vindication.  Just a little dig Ken.  Had to give you a little bit of a hard time about that.

Just months after being involved in the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen in Egypt, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon dies of a mysterious illness, said to be the mummy's curse.

Yes, that is Kershaw's number.

Maybe Jayson Werth will have a better year if he grows the beard back.
